  • Mal,
you won't get much better than that for that money. If you intend to do 1000s of kms, then really you should possibly think a bit more, but if you're not sure, just getting something to get you out there, or wanting to ride with that cute chick down the road, then sure, why not ?
One word of advice, with your back, don't be in a rush to get down into the low position.
Oh and stay behind the cute chick.

  • Thanks Nigel for the reply . Haven't [ushed the buy button yet .
    Cheers

  • Hm, a 564 mm stack and 383 mm reach...

I have no idea. Is it a good idea to sit on one first?

  • Looks like it's faulty - no pedals

You could test drive one by taking this trip to Ireland:

    https://www.rei.com/adventures/trips/europe/ireland-cycling.html?bvstate=pg:2/ct:r

"There will be a choice of a hybrid bicycle with flat handle bars (Lapierre Shaper 300) or a road bike with drop handle bars (Lapierre Audacio 400)"

  • Someone not busy =D> :D . Don't you have some speakers to build :-W
    :D

  • On yer bike :D

  • Like Nigel says, for the coin, that is a well specced bike. The Sora driveline is as durable as Shimano has ever made. The Promax brakes aren't much to write home about but decent aftermarket pads from Swissstop or Koolstop are a low budget solution

My only misgivings if you are planning on real use of the bike are over the wheelset which is usually the weak link of any production bike - basic hubs and heavy rims. Decent replacement wheels don't have to be expensive but they will still form a significant margin of the spend on this bike. I've a couple of spare wheelsets in the shed that would work well on this if you are interested...

  • Thanks for the info :-b
They txt me on the weekend & dropped another $39 bucks off .
    Cheers

  • So you'll be riding to Bathurst this year?

  • I had the rear wheel on my bike fail after I respoked the wheels, trying to remove a slight buckle. It failed under brakes on a steep decline amongst a pack of maybe 60 riders - all trying to stop and yelling out to riders behind. Took me 100m to stop applying the brakes as hard as I dared expecting to go over the front at any stage (I didn't know what the problem was until I stopped). It was very exciting. While I waited for the mechanic van to come by, exactly the same failure occurred to another guy.
Anyway, a couple of spoke nuts had pulled through the aluminium rim (cheap). Next day, back in Sydney I spent approx. $200 and got some decent wheels. The next year at exactly the same spot, a guy crashed and when I went passed he was not moving with a small trail of blood running down the road from his head - truned out he lost some teeth etc but was ok. My GP mate stopped to lend assistance. I rode on and beat him ! and the other bloke !

Not only that, it doesn't have suspension...?

I thought with a dodgy back, you'd need some sort of anti-cripple device!?

    And, where's the motor?

He could put suspension in. Replace the big fat stiff seatpost with a USE Vybe http://www.wiggle.com.au/ultimate-use-vybe-suspension-seat-post/ not cheap but amazing.

Anther option is fatter tyres like 700x32mm in a folding casing which are more supple and can be run at lower pressures. Trade off can be puncture protection but that can be worked around too. The following examples are again at the pricey end but these casings are pretty good - I run the Challenge Gravel Grinder tyres on my Niner and they are epically good

  • I guess it's like audio. You can buy and tweak, or just get it right the first time.

    :D

Gill thinks it needs another 2 wheels

  • Hi guys

The Shaper 300 is a 2015 bike and the importer aren't bringing in or supporting Lapierre
    anymore .

I could see it being a problem if the frame/forks fail . But would it matter regarding the running gear bearings ?

    Cheers

  • Mal,

It just depends on how much cycling you intend.
If you are going to get right into it, and why not....then I suggest you buy a 2nd hand $3000 bike, for similar money. It will be strong and will last.

No. It wouldn't be a problem. It really isn't the sort of bike to have frame and fork issues. And the rest is just maintenance. None of the gear on it is expensive to replace (except wheels). Rear derailleur is $40, shifter is about $35 etc.

My issue with a 2nd hand $3000 bike is the $120 shifter, $140 rear derailleur, $200 rear cassette etc etc and I've got three of this sort of thing. But if you are just starting out then you really don't need this 'sort of thing'. Just ride...
