Forgot to say that I just use a masonry drill on slow speed (with no hammer function!!) to make a starting hole for any hole completely within a tile. Just as aside too...if ever you (or anyone else) are drilling holes in your bathroom or laundry…

JohnR said: What's wrong with the GK-1? It's in pieces...and requires some work to make it whole again. Plus it also needs a case. So I'll leave that till I get old. I can easily bypass the NAKSA attenuator. Failing that I can just s…

Yeah, I'd prefer little or no DIY as I just don't have the time to devote to it at the moment. There's too much to do outside on the new land acquisition! The Yamaha is is no danger of coming back into service - it has a role elsewhere these day…

The DeWalt is not for timber. It's for cutting holes in 'drywall'. Gyprock to you and me... If you already have a cordless Dremel then you can get a trimmer attachment for it...

My FiL still has a tree across his driveway and power line to this day because it needs a crane to support the stump (in the neighbours yard) so it doesn't flop back when they cut the top out of what remains of the other neighbours deck and pergola.…

I drink beer and coffee. And wine. And I haven't bought any audio gear for quite some time [due to ongoing personal satisfaction]. Which means I can afford more beer, wine and coffee. And bicycle stuff. And teeth (this week anyway). But I typi…

Been through the 2nd hand iMac experience...not keen to repeat as you never seem to be able to completely wipe away the previous occupant.

That helps heaps... We can't get Netflix and don't do much (if any) media serving at all. And our desktop Mac is getting long in the tooth (so long it isn't supported anymore). Given that we already have a Nexus 7...all we were after is a b…

Which mini-computer did you get, John? And what wasn't expected? I'm curious about getting something like a Pi or (more likely) a CuBox as a basic home computer so your thoughts might be helpful...

GeeEmm said: I'm much happier sticking with my narrow mindedness. It's a very comfortable place to be. True. But I find that the random stampede of turkeys through the joint gets a tad annoying.

GeeEmm said: "... polish the bare wire with emery paper" That worked? No. That was a step too far. Though I may have touched up the ends with wet and dry paper to see if that helped the solder 'stick'... Now that I think on it I…
