LED downlights
Isn't it amazing that the dinky little things you used to put on your front panel are now the most efficient (?) form of lighting you can get?
Not going to ask for advice this time as I already bought them :-P Plugged one in to test it (they all come with 3-pin power leads these days), excited to get them into the kitchen to replace the crappy halogens up there now.
Now looking for one with a wide beam that fits in a 130mm cutout for the living room.

Hi Mal, I looked at their specs before and they are very directional/spotlighty. Wanting broader spread.
The eldest son recently had LED downlights that are VERY cool.
If you turn on & off within a short time frame, they change from cool white to warm white.
It's more useful than you may first think.
Doing stuff, cool white.
Chillling out, warm white.
CLA does plenty of decent LED downlight units. Quite a few fit a 130mm cutout but only this one has a 160 degree beam angle - don't be put off by the seemingly low number of lumens...

Awesome! Just what I want. 700 lumens is low?
One of the places I talked to tried to direct me to those. I just wasn't sure how well they would work in practice and Gopi said she only wanted warm.
Not expensive either

I was surprised just how well they work.
